Hearings on terror allegations against MP Faris and Justice Hameed set for Sunday
The first preliminary hearing in the terror trials against Faris and Hameed was held on Monday
The hearing in Hameed's terror trial is scheduled for 10:00 am on Sunday morning while Faris's hearing is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 01:00 pm

A hearing has been scehduled for Sunday in the terror trial against Supreme Court Justice Ali Hameed and son of Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and representative of Dhiggaru constituency in parliament Faris Maumoon.

The hearing in Hameed's terror trial is scheduled for 10:00 am on Sunday morning while Faris's hearing is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 01:00 pm.

So far, only one preliminary hearing was held in the terror trials against Justice Hameed and MP Faris.

The first hearing in the hearings which are being held respectively was held on Monday.

In the first preliminary hearing in Hameed's terror trial, state attorney Ahmed Naushad said that the Justice had been accepting bribes since 2013 and had been issuing rulings in cases in favor of particular persons.

Charges of obstructing the work of state institutions and influencing Judges had also been raised on Justice Hameed, along with allegations of scheming and coup d'etat against a legally established government.

Faris has been charged with offering bribes to felllow members of parliament and Justices of Maldives courts as well as conspiring to overthrow the government.

Faris had previously said that he doubts the hearing in his trial will be an equitable one.

Along with MP Faris and Justice Hameed, terror charges have been raised against long-serving statesman and Faris's father Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Supreme Court Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, South-Mahchangoalhi constituency MP Abdulla Sinan as well as former Commissioners of Police Ahmed Areef and Abdulla Riyaz, who is also the representative of Kinbidhoo constituency in Parliament.
