FM Asim heads to Dhaka for 45th OIC Foreign Ministers meeting

Maldives became a member city of the OIC on 26th July 1976

Foreign Minister Mohamed Asim departed to Dhaka, Bangladesh on Wednesday night, to take part in the 45th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

According to a tweet from the Ministry, the session is to be held from 4-6 May. However, a press release later said that the meeting is scheduled to take from 5 to 6 May.

Minister Asim is to deliver a statement at the session.

The theme for this year’s session is ‘Islamic Values for Sustainable Peace, Solidarity and Development”. The ministers are also expected to review conflict situations in parts of the Muslim world, discuss issues of international peace and security, Islamophobia, countering terrorism and violent extremism, humanitarian situations, as well as the situation of Muslim nations.

The Ministry said that Maldives’ Ambassador to the Bangladesh, Shaan Shakir will receive the minister at the airport. He is accompanied by the ministry’s Additional Secretary Javed Faizal and Desk Officer Hussain Abdul Latheef.

Maldives became a member city of the OIC on 26th July 1976, and has participated in all regular Summits, Extraordinary Summits and the Foreign Ministers meetings since.

The decision on Dhaka as the host city for the 2018 programme was made at a preparatory meeting of the senior officials concerned held from April 30 to May 2 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The English version of the new edition of OIC Journal No. 39, which will be distributed during this year's session.
