Swell surges are expected over southern atolls during high tide.

The Met Office (officially the Maldives Meteorological Services) has appealed on the general public to be wary of swell surges over southern atolls due to a storm that swelled in south-eastern ward of Addu city.

 

According to the Met office, the storm named "Flamboyant" had swelled about 3,000 kilometers southeast from Addu City and due to the storms the area had experience swell waves and repercussions are expected throughout the archipelago within the next 24 hours.

As such, swell surges are expected over southern atolls during high tide.

 

Northern atolls will experience high tides during 01:55 while central atolls will experience high tides during 02:34 and southern atolls will experience high tides during 03:11 in the afternoon on Wednesday. Met office also said that high tide is expected at 03:40 on Thursday afternoon as well.

 

While swell surges are expected over southern atolls, some islands of the southern region had experienced severe flooding due to swell surges, causing destruction in households on the 22nd of April.

 

As for general forecast mainly fine weather is expected during daytime with isolated showers and a few thunderstorms occuring over central and southern atolls later in the period.

 

Surface winds will be south-west/westerly at 10-20 miles per hour in central and southern atolls and 7 - 15 miles per hour elsewhere while seas are expected to be moderate.
