Parliament sitting set for 1pm on Sunday
The last parliament sitting was held over a month ago
Parliament will go to recess today
Parliament sittings are divided into three sessions, first one is from February till April

A parliament sitting is to be held at 1pm on Sunday.

While it has been over a month since the last parliament sitting was held- with the last sitting held on March 14- this sitting was initially planned for last Wednesday, but postponed without a reason.

The meeting’s agenda has been released as well, with items such as increasing of the health insurance premium provided to cabinet ministers.

While the parliament has only held 10 sittings so far this year, the first session of the year will conclude today and parliament will go to recess. Opposition lawmakers continue to boycott parliament sittings, questioning the validity of sittings held under the embattled speaker of parliament Abdulla Maseeh.

According to the People’s Majlis regulations, sittings are compulsory on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

While parliament sittings are divided into three sessions, the first session is from February till the end of April. Parliament will go into a month-long recess afterwards, with the second session to start of the first day of June.

While parliament sittings have not been held ‘due to lack of pending work’, there are currently six bills in parliament, including the Media Commission Bill.
