Mariyam Saeed, the second wife of late former President Ibrahim Nasir, has been buried at Kuppiyawatte Muslim Burial Ground, Sri Lanka.

She was buried next to her brother Ibrahim Shihab and father Hussain Salahuddeen, who was a prolific writer of early Maldivian literature.

Family members that were present at the funeral on Friday include former parliament speaker Abdulla Shahid, Hussain Shihab, Ibrahim Hussain Shihab, Muiz Adnan and others. Former President Mohamed Nasheed and officials at the Maldives embassy in Colombo were also present.

Mariyam Saeed passed away at 86 in Sri Lanka on Thursday after suffering a stroke over a month ago.

She had two children with former President Nasir, Ali Nasir and Mohamed Nasir, both of whom had also passed away.

Liker her father, Mariyam Saeed was a celebrated writer and poet and was conferred the National Award of Honour in the field of Dhivehi poetry in 1983.
