President Muizzu met the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth as part of his ongoing trip to Antigua and Barbuda

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed gratitude for the support and assistance the Commonwealth has been providing for the development of Maldives.

This was done during a meeting he held with Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland KC in Antigua and Barbuda, on the sidelines of the fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Expressing appreciation for the development assistance provided by the Commonwealth to the island nation, the Maldivian leader acknowledged the support extended by the Commonwealth in the fields of sports, youth empowerment, education, the environment as well as technology.

Discussions revolved around issues of importance to SIDS and other Small States in the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth SG praised the Maldives on the strong and valuable leadership shown on critical issues of concern to SIDS.

The Maldivian leader and Commonwealth SG went on to touch upon avenues for the Commonwealth to further boost its role in aiding SIDS.

Before concluding the meeting, President Muizzu reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to enhance cooperation with the Commonwealth.
