Hassan Hussain, who saved one of the three minors who had gone missing after going for a swim in Addu City's Koattey on Saturday, has been conferred an award of recognition.
Hassan was conferred the award from Addu City Council for his valour and benevolent efforts in saving a soul.
Hassan's family members were present at the small ceremony held on Tuesday, along with members of the council. The award was presented to Hussain by Addu City Council's mayor, Abdulla Sodig.
Hassan had rescued 16-year-old Raif Ali mere hours after the three were reported missing at around 11:30 am on Saturday.
However, two others, Ali Fahmy, 17 and Mayameen Ali, 15 are yet to be found.
Hassan, who is hearing impaired as well as deprived of speech, has been applauded by several for his heroic efforts in saving Raif, including from former President Mohamed Nasheed.
