Officers of the Maldives Police Service have on Monday found a pair of shorts they believe belongs to 17-year-old Ali Fahmy, who was reported missing in Addu City on Saturday.

The article of clothing was found near the seaward side of Addu City’s Hithadhoo region, where Fahumy had been swimming when he went missing.

Fahumy’s family has yet to confirm if they belong to the missing minor. Fahumy was reported missing alongside 15-year-old Mayaamin Ali while the two were out swimming with a third friend, Raaif Ali.

Raaif Ali was rescued by a man who saw the three children struggle against strong currents, on Saturday morning. He had returned for the remaining children after having saved Raaif’s life, but he had lost sight of them.

Rescue teams are still operational in the area and the Maldives National Defence Force has dispatched both divers and a helicopter to search the entire area surrounding Addu City.
