No Majlis sittings for over a month, to go into recess end of April
The last parliament sitting was held on March 14
Parliament sittings are divided into three sessions, first one is from February till April
Only 10 sittings were held on the first session

It has been over a month since the last parliament sitting, with around a week to go till the end of this year’s first session.

While a total of 10 sittings were held during the first session, the last sitting was held on March 14. There have not been any committee meetings since as well.

According to the People’s Majlis regulations, sittings are compulsory on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

While parliament sittings are divided into three sessions, the first session is from February till the end of April. Parliament will go into a month-long recess afterwards, with the second session to start of the first day of June.

While parliament sittings have not been held ‘due to lack of pending work’, there are currently six bills in parliament, including the Media Commission Bill.

While a number of people, both in the local and international community, believe that the parliament is under military lockdown, the joint opposition claims that the institution is being used as place to do ‘whatever the government wants’.
