Various islands in the country have been experiencing high tidal swells on Saturday.
Residences and household properties have been flooded, causing damage.
Speaking to RaajjeMV over the matter, Thaa atoll council chief Rilwan Abdulla said that many islands of the atoll have beed affected by high swell waves.
Some of these islands include Thimarafushi, Guraidhoo, Kimbidhoo and Gaadhiffushi. According to Rilwan, residences and their properties have as well been heavily damaged due to the flooding.
Shaviyani atoll Bilehfahi island council reports that they had experienced the biggest tidal swells on Saturday in the island's recent history.
While swell waves had gushed into boat sheds from the island's seacoast, it had caused several damages according to the island council.
Gaaf Dhaal atoll Nadella island had also reported of severe damages caused by flooding, with some residents having had to move into temporary shelters.
Other islands affected by swell waves include Alif Dhaal Fenfushi, Raa Maduvvari as well as Fuvahmulah City.
Fuvahmulak city council member Mohamed Iraar spoke to RaajjeMV highlighting that swell waves had gushed into the city westward from 'Dhandi Magu' upto the 'Funaadu' district.
The Maldives Metereological Service (MET Office) had reported that there is a high probability of swell waves especially during the high tides throughout the country.
