EC to include security protocols during voter education

Elections Commission (EC) members met with officials from the Maldives Police Service on Wednesday, to discuss security protocols for the upcoming election.

The meeting was held at the EC office.

The Commission's President Ahmed Shareef attended the meeting, where the main discussion was regarding issues of 'overcrowding' on the day of election.

EC's newly appointed media official, Ahmed Akram told RaajjeMV that they discussed 'security protocols which can be used in case of overcrowding during election', as well as the role of the Commission and police, in ensuring ensure public safety.

At the meeting, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Hamdhoon Rasheed requested EC to include security mechanisms during voter education.

RaajjeMV understands that police officers have been informed of ACP Rasheed's appointment as the Security Commander for the Presidential Election 2018. However, the MPS is yet to confirm this.
