Male' City Council has called on the Housing Ministry to organize an effective way to manage the disposal of waste from houses and streets of capital city Male'.
A resolution passed by the city council states that it has been three years since the Housing Ministry took over the responsibility of waste disposals and keeping the streets of the capital orderly which the City Council had efficiently been carrying out previously, stressing on the haphazard manner in which garbage bags are seen scattered over streets and alleys of the capital city recently.
The council highlighted that the Housing Ministry has failed to proficiently carry out the responsibility of keeping the city tidy, seeing as it has become habitual that garbage bags are seen scattered over streets, alleys, graveyards and several public areas.
Multiple complaints have surfaced following the increasing garbage issue due to which vehicles travelling on the roads are being slowed, pedestrians are complaning of foul odors and the increase of rodents.
The city council has stressed on this matter adding that if proper hygiene is not maintained, this could lead to the arising of several airborne diseases.
The council also called on the public to help maintain the city's tidiness and to maintain it as a 'green' city.
