Maldives Meteorology Service (Met office) has issued a white alert over the country following reports of heavy showers and thunderstorms.

The white alert was issued from 02:00 pm to 08:00 pm on Sunday following predictions of heavy showers and thuderstorms between Dhaalu and Seenu atolls.

According to the MET office, heavy rains are expected throughout the entirety of Maldives with thunderstorms in some areas. 

Atolls in the southern region will experience intense showers and surface winds gusting 05-15 miles per hour from southwest to westerly with gusts of winds up to 35 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are expected to be slight becoming moderate during showers throughout the country.
