Adhaalath Party leader Imran Abdulla was brought to the capital for a doctor’s appointment on Thursday.
Speaking to some media outlets, media officer at the Maldives Correctional Services said that Imran was brought for a routine doctor’s appointment, adding that he does not have a specific health issue.
The Adhaalath leader has been brought to Malé for doctors’ appointments a number of time in the recent days, with back to back appointments in March- he was brought on March 21 and 22. He was taken to hospital earlier in March as well.
Back in February, his party had expressed concern over his ‘deteriorating health condition’, saying that his blood sodium level was ‘at a critical level’. They noted that delaying medical attention ‘will worsen the functioning of his heart, the blood pressure and other existing health issues’.
The party also accused the state of ignoring his family’s concerns, and neglecting the issue.
Convicted on terrorism charges over the 2015 May Day protest, the biggest of its kind to date, Imran was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
