President Abdulla Yameen has sent a condolence message to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, following the bus crash in a small town in Canada’s Saskatchewan province.

In his message, President Yameen noted that he was ‘saddened’ to hear of the deadly crash, ‘leading to the loss of many innocent live and causing serious injuries to many’.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims and their families, for a speedy recovery. Please also convey our heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families,” said President Yameen, extending the sympathies of the government and the people of Maldives.

A bus carrying a junior hockey team to a playoff game in Saskatchewan collided with a transport truck on a rural highway on Friday; 15 were killed and at least 14 others injured. The truck’s driver was uninjured in the crash and released after being questioned by police.

In a statement on Twitter, PM Trudeau said, “I cannot imagine what these parents are going through, and my heart goes out to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy, in the Humboldt community and beyond.”
