Individual arrested over arson attack on ruling party camp
The attack took place at around 4:10am on the 24th of March, according to PPM
The next day, police confirmed that an investigation had been launched over the matter
RaajjeMV understands that the individual arrested has been issued a 15-day remand

An individual has been arrested over the arson attack on Rumaalu-2, a party camp of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

While RaajjeMV understands that the Criminal Court has issued him a 15-day remand, we were unable to confirm the matter due to the police media officer failing to respond to calls.

PPM had said that the arson attack was carried out at around 4:10am on the 24th of March, and that it had been directed towards the stage and podium inside the camp.

While the camp’s security is overlooked by an individual company, police had, on March 25, confirmed that investigation was launched into the attack, after receiving a report.

Maldives Police Service is yet to reveal any details on the matter.

Opposition leader and former President, Mohamed Nasheed condemned the attack on the ruling party camp “in the strongest terms”.

His Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) said that attacks on party camps, offices and belongings “are attacks on democracy”.
