Maldives dissolves hospital management agreement with Indian company
The agreement was signed on 19th June 2017
The hospital was handed over to NIMS for a period of 50 years
Disruptions in operations of the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital forced the health ministry to take over some of the operations

The Government of Maldives has decided to dissolve its agreement with India’s Noorul Islam International (NII), to manage Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.

RaajjeMV understands that the decision was made following a disagreement between the company’s shareholders, Faizal Khan and Ali Usaid.

While the conflicts between the two shareholders had led to disruptions in the hospital’s operations, it forced the Ministry of Health to takeover some of the operations.

The Maldivian government had given the two 10 days to solve the issues within the company, back in January this year. While the company had sent the government a letter saying that matters had been resolved- and assuring the smooth running of the hospital- there had been no progress.

The Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital was handed over to Noorul Islam International (NII), which is run by Noorul Islam Institute of Medical Science (NIMS), for a period of 50 years in June 2017.

While the terms of the agreement has never been disclosed, it is important to note that the usual bidding process had been omitted as well.
