Ibrahim Uwais, whose nomination recieved parliamentary approval in February, has been made the new ambassador to Japan.
His appointment was made official in a ceremony held at the President's Office on Thursday morning.
President Yameen Abdul Gayoom sent Uwais' for parliamentary approval and it was voted on at the sitting held on February 28th. 31 members had voted in favor of him appointing him.
Parliamentarians aligned with the administration's opponents had boycotted this sitting as well.
In a report published by the Parliament's National Security Committee, it is stated that Uwais's name was approved following thorough investigation with the unanimous approval of all present Committee members.
