Maldives Police Service has barred lawyer Moosa Siraj from taking up Former Police Commissioner Ahmed Areef's case.
In a tweet sent out on Wednesday, Siraj wrote that he had attempted to take on Areef's case as his defense lawyer upon the request of the former CP's family.
Siraj appealed Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz to bring an end to the interference in attorney duties, further saying they are the lawyers who will be there to take Nawaz's case if he were to ever get apprehended.

While Siraj has been denied Areef's case, lawyer Ibrahim Riffath had met with Areef on Tuesday. Riffath tweeted on Tuesday morning that Areef denies the conspiracy accusations under which he was brought into police custody. The lawyer informs that the ex-CP is in good spirits and urges everyone to exercise their constitutional rights and appeals to uphold the rule of law.
