HRCM tells police to 'take Adh'ham to Malé' for medical purposes
Adh'ham was arrested on 16th February
He was denied consultation with a dentist by the doctor stationed at Dhoonidhoo Detention Centre
Adh'ham began a hunger strike on 2nd March

The Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has ordered the Maldives Police Service (MPS) to take detained Adh'ham Ahmed to the capital for medical treatment.

HRCM’s order comes despite the doctor at Dhoonidhoo Detention Center’s refusal to send him to Malé for treatment.

His defence lawyer Mahfooz Saeed told RaajjeMV that Adh'ham’s family filed the case at the Commission, after he was denied consultation with a dentist. The case was also filed at the Criminal Court and the Ministry of Health.

The lawyer said that the doctor in Dhoonidhoo had said that there were no issues, when he was taken there due to a toothache.

Adh'ham began a hunger strike on 2nd March.

Leader of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), former President Mohamed Nasheed has called for Adh'ham’s “immediate” release. Adh'ham is a member of MDP’s National Council.

Adh'ham was arrested at MDP’s campaign office while preparing for the opposition rally on February 16.
