Jumhooree Party (JP)'s deputy leader and Kinbidhoo MP Abdulla Riyaz says he is resilient even though he is behind bars and that he has not been brought for questioning by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) yet.

Riyaz, who was former commisioner of police, told his lawyers that police conduct towards detainees needs to be amended and that this issue will be nonexistent in a democratic rule.

Riyaz has made these claims while rumor has it that police are suppressing detainees from their fundamental rights on top of assaulting them while in incarceration.

According to Riyaz, accussations against detainees who were arrested at the same time evidently alters from one another.

MP Riyaz was apprehended while at the sidelines of Friday's rally and had followed police orders without reluctance. The reason for his arrest was stated as under the State of Emergency.

Arrested along with him was North-Henveiru MP Abdulla Shahid, who has since been released.
