The first Vice President of the current administration, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that the series of joint opposition rallies cannot be halted and that the opposition will overthrow the administration's tyrannical rule.
In a tweet sent out on Sunday, Dr. Jameel claimed that President Yameen's administration knows nothing but the use of brutal force.
The former Vice President also claimed that the authorities have arrested Kinbidhoo MP Abdulla Riyaz and South-Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof in a desperate attempt to cling to power after having 'run out of options'. He wrote that protests will continue and that President Yameen's rule will come to an end.
YAG’s regime knows nothing but use of brutal & disproportionate force against brave people of Maldives. @riyazabdulla & @AhmedMahloof detained as regime runs out of options & nears end. Protests will continue & IA YAG’s illegal & unconstitutional rule will be brought to an end.

Jameel's tweet is followed by Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Gasim Ibrahim's announcement of the mass opposition rally to be held on the 16th of March, Friday in an interview given to VTV on Saturday night.
Dr. Jameel, the current administration's first vice president had been impeached through a parliamentary vote backed by both pro-government and opposition lawmakers.
Since his impeachment Dr. Jameel had signed into opposition JP earlier in February in a ceremony held in Germany with the presence of the party leader and other senior officials of the party.
Jameel is also the leader of the Maldives United Opposition (MUO), having signed an agreement in 2016 with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the Adhaalath Party (AP), former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, and former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim,
