The opposition has been holding series of protests across the nation since 1st February, calling on authorities to implement the Supreme Court ruling

The opposition parties are to hold a special rally in the capital Malé City on 16th March, calling on authorities to implement the initial Supreme Court ruling issued on the 1st of February.

The announcement was made by one of the opposition leaders, Jumhooree Party’s Qasim Ibrahim, in an interview to VTV on Saturday night.

The self-exiled JP leader said that the opposition leaders have held discussions over the matter, and that they have made the decision to hold a special rally on March 16.

While he noted that the rally will also be held across the nation, Qasim called on the people to head to the capital city for the rally.

Furthermore, calling on the people to take part in the rally, he said that “there is no need to worry about anything such as expenses”.

The Jumhooree Party leader had previously called for the people to gather in Malé as well, in a phone interview to RaajjeTV.

Qasim was sentenced to over three years, two months and 12 days in prison in August 2017. While he was admitted at hospital during his sentencing, he was granted medical leave in September, and traveled to Singapore. He has since traveled Germany under a special permit in November 2017.
