MP Falah released from police custody

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s parliamentary group member, MP Mohamed Falaah has been released from police custody.

The West-Maafannu constituency MP was arrested on Tuesday night, from an opposition rally in the capital city. The opposition has been holding nightly protests since February 1, calling on authorities to implement the Supreme Court ruiling issued that day.

MP Falah was arrested infront of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s national campaign office in the Henveiru of Malé city, while speaking to some police officers working to disperse the crowd. Police have not revealed the reason for his arrest.

A total of five protesters were arrested on Tuesday night, and three have since been released. They were released after having been taken into custody at the police station in Malé City.

Members of parliament for Madduvari constituency Mohamed Ameeth and Thinadhoo south constituency Abdulla Ahmed who were arrested on Monday evening’s demonstration had been released on Tuesday.
