If you have enough evidence against my clients, charge them 'right now': Maumoon Hameed
Police on Monday said that they have enough evidence against Gayoom, MP Faris and Nadheem
“Well, then, charge them right now and we will see you in court. Why delay?” said Hameed
Former President Gayoom was arrested on 5th February, under a state of emergency declaration

Lawyer Maumoon Hameed has called on the Maldives Police Service (MPS) to charge former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Dhiggaru constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon and Mohamed Nadheem “right now”.

In a tweet posted on Monday, Hameed said “we hear you have enough evidence against President Maumoon, Faris Maumoon and Mohamed Nadheem”.

“Well, then, charge them right now and we will see you in court. Why delay?” he added.

Hameed’s tweet is directed towards the police’s announcement on Monday, that they have gathered enough evidence against the three; they are accused of bribing Supreme Court justices, to allegedly overthrow the government.

Hameed had said that former President Gayoom had not been questioned, 500 hours after his arrest. The lawyers also note that MP Faris and Nadheem are yet to be questioned over the investigation as well.

Police also revealed that they have enough evidence to prove that Gayoom, Faris and Nadheem had attempted to overthrow the government by bribing parliamentarians, on 24th July 2017.
