Alongside Mayor Yashrif, the city's MDP chief Ibrahim "Ibrey" Rasheed and Hithadhoo chief Moosa Mohamed have also been apprehended.
Addu city mayor claims that the rallies in Addu city will not cease until the supreme court order issued on the release of political detainees is implemented.

Addu city deputy mayor Mohamed Yashrif and five locals have been arrested from the rally being held in Addu city calling for the immediate implementation of the supreme court order issued on the 1st of February regarding the release of all political detainees.

Alongside Mayor Yashrif, the city's MDP chief Ibrahim "Ibrey" Rasheed and Hithadhoo chief Moosa Mohamed have also been apprehended.

They were arrested while the rally was being moved to Hithadhoo's main road after having been blocked off on the link road.

The demonstration began infront of Addu city's national campaign hall with a large crowd gathered in the area. As the demonstrators set off down the Link road, their path was blocked by special operations officers, after which they moved the rally down to the district's main road.

SO officers had yet again blocked their path on the main road and made their arrests.

While there have been continuous protests almost every evening in the capital city since the 1st of February, Addu city and some other islands have joined in and begun their endless rallies from the 16th of this month.

It is understood that the police had restricted opposition parties from protesting in Addu city, yet had allowed PPM's gathering upon the first lady's arrival in Addu city on Friday.

Addu city mayor Abdulla "Soabe" Sodig revealed that the detainees of the rally had been assaulted in police custody. He also claimed that the rallies in Addu city will not cease until the supreme court order issued on the 1st of February is implemented.
