Jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb is to be transferred to Maafushi Prison on Tuesday afternoon, says his family.

In a tweet posted in the morning, his wife Mariyam Nashwa said that Adeeb has informed her that he is to be transferred there in the afternoon. She added that he told her this through a family call.

The former VP was transferred to Maafushi Prison earlier in the month as well, after the Supreme Court’s order to release him and other eight high profile prisoners on February 1; he was transferred back to Dhoonidhoo Detention Centre last Thursday, along with now detained former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

The government has rejected the Supreme Court ruling, with the President declaring a state of emergency instead.

The former vice president of the current administration is serving prison sentences totaling 33 years on terrorism and corruption charges.
