Jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has divorced his first wife Aminath Liusha.

RaajjeMV understands that the former VP divorced his wife on Monday evening, via a phone call from Dhoonidhoo Prison. Liusha was in the United Arab Emirated (UAE) at the time.

While a man is allowed up to four wives in Islam, Adeeb was married to two women. His second wife, Mariyam Nashwa is seen more active in the work being done to secure a medical leave for Adeeb.

According to his family, the former VP’s life is in critical danger after being diagnosed with glaucoma, internal cysts and kidney stones. However, the government has refused to grant him medical leave, claiming that he ‘is a flight risk’.

Adeeb, who was sentenced to 33 years in prison, is serving his sentence in the prison in Dhoonidhoo island in Kaafu Atoll, against procedures of Maldives Correctional Service (MCS). He was transferred to Dhoonidhoo under a special permit from Home Ministry.
