Maldives is to celebrate March 6 as the ‘National Patriotism Day’ from this year onwards.

The President’s Office announced President Abdulla Yameen’s decision on Wednesday.

The Office said that the reason 6th March was declared National Patriotism Day is because the government’s promotional campaign Tharika was inaugurated on the same date in 2017. Tharika promotes unity and culture along and boosts religious faith and national spirit.

It emphasized that the campaign “is an important national camping to instill patriotism within the society”.

Ministry of Home Affairs and the Tharika Committee is to carry out all administrative responsibilities to mark the day at a national level, together with all other government offices and institutions.
