Left PSM without a backup plan, claims TV presenter Moosa Waseem
He announced his resignation on Sunday
He said that "you have to take the journey to know what is in store"
Waseem joined the state broadcaster as a presenter back in 2004

Well-known TV presenter Moosa Waseem has resigned from the state broadcaster after 13 years.

Waseem, who announced his resignation on the last day of 2017, claims that he made the decision “without thinking about the next move”.

He told RaajjeMV that his decision is based on the Dhivehi saying “dhathuru fennaanee fureemaey” which basically translates to “you have to take the journey to know what is in store”.

The friendly TV personality emphasized that he did not leave Public Service Media (PSM) to join a certain workplace.

“To be honest, I left while knowing that I do not have anything else lined up for me,” added Waseem.

When asked if he will continue in the media, Waseem replied that “it is in my blood”, but said he was unable to say when or where he will be seen next.

He also thanked the various figures who has helped him make a name in the media, including PSM’s managing director Ibrahim Khaleel and other senior officials, as well as Mariyam Shaugee, Mariyam Shifla, state minister during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration Thoyyib Mohamed Waheed, and his family, adding that “they are the real reasons behind my success”.

Waseem joined the state broadcaster as a presenter back in 2004, and has earned a degree in journalism. Prior to his resignation, Waseem was the senior news editor at PSM. He is also the main host of the first franchise reality show in the country, Maldivian Idol, and has hosted the show twice. He was also named as the show’s host this year, and has shot this season’s audition episodes.

In a tweet posted late Sunday night, Waseem attempted to answer the public’s questions regarding his resignation, saying “there is no specific answer”.

Simply for a change,” he said, adding that he spent his “entire 20s informing, educating and entertaining the public”. Noting that this was “one of the best parts of [his] job,” Waseem told the public that they will see him on screen again.
