Four additional suspects had been arrested in the investigation in to the deaths.

The Prosecutor General (PG) Office said that the five are charged with wrongful death due to negligence, for failure to provide assistance to a dying individual, under Article 618 of the Penal Code.

If found guilty, they will be sentenced to one month and six days’ in prison.

An additional charge was levied on Hassan Zidhan, with providing a false statement to a law enforcement officer.

Police launched an investigation into the matter after noticing similarities in the two cases, despite it initially being reported that Haameen died while playing football and Sama’s body was discovered near the swimming track in Hulhumalé.

While police have yet to release more details regarding the investigation, they had disclosed that party drugs were found in the vicinity where the duo had passed away.
