Three former ministers of the current administration have traveled to the United Kingdom, in order to meet the now self-exiled former vice president, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed.

Jameel was incumbent President Abdulla Yameen's running mate back in 2013, and first deputy; he was succeeded by Ahmed Adeeb, who was later replaced by the current vice president, Abdulla Jihad.

The ministers who traveled to meet Jameel are: former Home Minister Umar Naseer, former Youth Minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal and Abdulla Ameen, former minister at the President's Office.

The three have been holding senior posts in the government since former President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik's administration. Former VP Waheed came into power in 2012, after former President Mohamed Nasheed was ousted, in what he described as a 'coup'.

While the trio is to meet with the former vice president, Naseer has announced his bid for the 2018 presidency. Furthermore, following the joint opposition's call to unite behind a single candidate for the upcoming election, Naseer had called to put forward Jumhooree Party (JP) leader and business tycoon, Qasim Ibrahim.

Qasim, sentenced to three years two months and 12 days in prison, is currently in Singapore after being granted medical leave by the Maldives Correctional Services (MCS). He was sentenced in absentia while admitted in hospital, he is to undergo surgeries due to a preexisting heart condition.

While Qasim is in Singapore receiving treatment, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom traveled there on Tuesday. While the former president formed a coalition with other opposition parties in March this year, the purpose of his visit is unclear.
