The Ministry of Education has been ordered to pay over MVR 400,000 to Mandhu College, for the loss suffered due to the ministry's negligence.

Civil Court had, on October 30, ordered the ministry to pay MVR 451,189 to Mandhu College, within a period of 30 days.

According to the court ruling, when Mandhu College was forced to vacate its old premises in 2013, the Education Ministry had held its furniture, agreeing to return them.

Noting that the furniture held by the ministry had gone missing, Mandhu College had sent an invoice to them informing of the matter in February 2013, seeking compensation for the loss. The court ruling stated that the invoice showed that the ministry had agreed to compensate them for the 519 desks, 148 chairs and seven tables.

Noting that the items are yet to be handed over to the College, the Civil Court had ordered the Education Ministry to pay MVR 451,189 to Malé High Private Limited, parent company of Mandhu College.

Furthermore, the Court said that it was unable to impose any fines against the ministry, as requested by Mandhu college.
