No sincere efforts to cut government spending are being observed: Shujau

Former President of the V. Thinadhoo Council, Shujau Ali, has stated that the current administration shows no sincere commitment to implementing any genuine cost-cutting measures.

Speaking on RaajjeTV's "Fala Surukhee" program, Shujau stated that reducing the number of junior staff while simultaneously appointing individuals to high-level positions, such as ministerial ranks, does not constitute a reduction in expenditure.

Furthermore, he stated that there is ongoing wastefulness in state administration, the utilization of national revenue, and the implementation of development projects.

I believe you are referring to the national campaign for mutual respect recently announced by the President. It seems the state budget was the first to join this initiative; the budget has shown profound respect for exactly what the President described.

Shujau stated that President Muizzu is prioritizing spending on his own agenda, even if it means cutting the budget for essential public services such as the maintenance of island mosques, street lighting, and road cleaning.

Highlighting the irony of the government's actions, Shujau noted that while companies are being dissolved at the start of the week under the guise of cost-cutting, new ones are being established by the weekend. He further alleged that the new company created to manage mosques is a strategic move to slash council budgets and redirect those funds toward other government expenditures.
