The Maldives Meteorological Service has urged the public to exercise heightened caution as the Southwest Monsoon intensifies, with forecasts predicting adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain and strong winds, across various regions of the country over the next three days.

MMS has announced that a large part of the country is expected to experience widespread rain on September 11, 12, and 13, as monsoon clouds develop over the region due to the prevailing Southwest Monsoon. The office further forecasts heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across various areas during this period.

In terms of wind speed and direction, the southern atolls are expected to experience southwesterly and westerly winds at speeds between 5 and 15 mph. However, the central and northern atolls are forecasted to see winds from the west and northwest at 15 to 22 mph. Additionally, MMS has cautioned that wind speeds could gust up to approximately 40 mph during squalls.

Regarding sea conditions, waters in the southern atolls are expected to remain slight to moderate, though they may become rough during squalls. However, as seas are projected to be generally rough across other regions, the Meteorological Service urges seafarers to exercise heightened caution and remain vigilant regarding the weather conditions.

Relevant authorities are urging the public to take necessary precautions against potential incidents caused by adverse weather conditions. Specifically, mariners are advised to ensure all safety measures are in place and to consult the latest weather forecasts before planning any voyages.
