Hulhudheli Health Center Extension Stalled for Six Months Over Unpaid Contractor

Work on the extension building of the Dhaal Hulhudheli Health Center, initiated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration, has reportedly come to a standstill due to the government's failure to issue payments to the contractor.
In an interview with RaajjeTV, Ahmed Nasru, President of the D. Hulhudheli Island Council, stated that the project was a pledge made by President Muizzu. He noted that while work on the site initially commenced in October 2025, the extension building of the Hulhudheli Health Center was officially inaugurated by the former Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, during a visit to the island in January 2026.
Noting that the project was contracted to be completed within 720 days, Nasru stated that no progress has been made since February 2026. He further alleged that the work has stalled because the government has failed to issue payments to the contractor.
Despite the contractor having completed such extensive work to date, they have yet to receive the payments owed to them. Nasru stated that the Hulhudheli Health Center currently has only about four beds. He emphasized that the extension building is crucial, as the facility quickly reaches full capacity whenever a viral outbreak occurs on the island.
Furthermore, Nasru noted that although the Minister inaugurated the laboratory services previously established by the Member of Parliament for the Meedhoo constituency, during a visit in January, the necessary equipment for the facility has yet to be delivered.
