Consequently, the council has urgently called on the government to expedite the remaining work and bring the project to completion.

The Maenboodhoo Island Council has expressed concern over the stalling of the island's water supply project, which was 70 percent complete by the end of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration.
In an interview with RaajjeTV, Nooma Mohamed, President of the Dh. Maaenboodhoo Island Council, expressed deep concern regarding the prolonged delay of the island's water supply project. She noted that although the project was officially contracted on February 25, 2021, the service remains unavailable to the public to this date.
Nooma highlighted that the primary cause for the delay is the non-completion of essential components required for operationalization. She specifically pointed out that the final segment of the project remains unfinished; while the containers have been installed and are functional, the administrative facility of the water plant lacks the necessary resources and infrastructure to commence operations.
Furthermore, she clarified that while the distribution network to households has been completed, the lack of progress on the administrative building is currently obstructing the provision of services to the residents. Nooma also confirmed that all site work is currently at a complete standstill.
I cannot specify the exact duration of this delay, but considering this project commenced in 2021, it has clearly faced significant setbacks. Regarding this project, the Ministry of Housing's most recent update indicated that while the Maenboodhoo water project was scheduled for this year, it has been suspended due to unresolved budgetary issues, according to Nooma.
Furthermore, Nooma noted that 70 percent of the project had been completed by the time President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office. She also stated that the remaining work must be finalized to officially commence the service.
