Individual who must be apprehended using tankers and heavy artillery is very clearly known to the Home Minister: Rasheed

Former Member of Parliament for Maafannu Medhu, Ibrahim Rasheed (Bondā), has stated that Home Minister Ali Ihusaan is well aware of the specific individual who warrants an arrest involving the full deployment of tankers and heavy weaponry.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Rasheed alleged that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu plays a significant role in the black market trade of foreign currency.

Noting that MIFCO exports its fish products in US dollars, Rasheed stated that the public remains unaware of where, to whom, or at what rate the foreign currency earned from these exports was exchanged. He further alleged that the government has been selling these dollar earnings on the black market.

Rasheed alleged that banks are purchasing dollars from the black market at a rate of 19 Rufiyaa, claiming that these actions are being carried out under the direction of President Muizzu. He further stated that if state-owned enterprises are exchanging currency, the government must disclose to the public the total amount of dollars exchanged and the specific rates at which those transactions were conducted.

Noting that money exchangers are being denied permits even at the airport, Rasheed asserted that this is a blatant act of grand theft by the government to seize control of dollars and operate a black market. He further stated that it is the Prosecutor General's responsibility to investigate President Muizzu’s involvement in black market trading, emphasizing that the head of state is not above the law.

Money changers are no longer being issued licenses. By seizing all these dollars and operating a black market, the government is committing a blatant and massive theft. It is common knowledge that the President himself is behind this. The Prosecutor General must be aware that this is a criminal offense. It is the Prosecutor General's responsibility to order the police to investigate or arrest anyone committing a crime. Today, it is Muizzu who is trading on the black market. Investigating his case and taking action is the responsibility of the Prosecutor General. Holding the office of the President does not grant him immunity before the law.

Rasheed stated that the dollar should not be treated as a commodity, noting that its value continues to rise because the state is utilizing currency as a tradeable asset.

Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office on Monday, Home Minister Ihusaan stated that buying and selling dollars at unofficial rates is a criminal offense. The Minister further emphasized that decisive action will be taken against those engaged in such illegal currency exchange activities.

However, President Muizzu has stated that state-owned enterprises purchase dollars from the black market, effectively acknowledging it as a platform for conducting official government transactions.
