The bill outlining the regulations for leasing and contracting uninhabited islands and lagoons for various purposes has been sent to the Parliament's Economic Affairs Committee for further review.

This bill was submitted to Parliament on behalf of the government by Saudullah Hilmy, the Member of Parliament for the North Thinadhoo constituency.

The decision to refer the bill to the Economic Affairs Committee for further review was made following a vote during Wednesday's parliamentary sitting. The motion to send the bill to a sub-committee, specifically designating the Economic Affairs Committee for the review process, was proposed by Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falah.

The bill comprises 75 articles organized into eight chapters. It stipulates that uninhabited islands may be leased for tourism, industrial activities, fisheries, agriculture, and other economic or social purposes, as well as for state requirements.
