President Awards Order of Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin to Mohamed Moosa

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has conferred the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin (O.D.R.I.) upon Mohamed Moosa, recipient of the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Muleege. The honor was presented to him during the official ceremony held this morning to mark Independence Day.

Mohamed Moosa was recognized from a young age for his exceptional industriousness. He harbored a profound interest in pursuing a career in business from early childhood. After completing his initial education at Majeediyya School, he pursued further studies at Jamia Darussalam in Oomerabad, Tamil Nadu, India, with the support of his family, where he gained fluency in both Hindi and Urdu. Subsequently, driven by a desire to master various technical skills, he relocated to Coimbatore. There, he worked in several factories, gaining hands-on experience and acquiring expertise across a diverse range of fields.

After completing his education and vocational training in India, Mohamed Moosa returned to the Maldives and began utilizing his acquired skills to generate income. Driven by a profound personal passion for economic development, he became actively involved in various commercial ventures. Among these, agriculture emerged as a field he pursued with particular dedication. He initiated his own farming projects, expanding them significantly while also training numerous individuals in the craft. Mohamed Moosa extended multifaceted support to farmers operating at various scales across the country, facilitating the market entry of agricultural produce and ensuring these goods remained available at reasonable prices. In addition to his private ventures, Mohamed Moosa served as a member of the government's Agriculture Advisory Board. His significant contributions to horticulture and environmental stewardship were formally recognized by the state in 1996, when he was honored with the "Green Leaf" award for his work in the environmental sector.

Mohamed Moosa continues to serve the tourism sector and the general public through "Champa Wholesale," a business established to supply food and a diverse range of beverages. Additionally, he supplies the Male’ market with fresh fruits, vegetables, and fertilizers produced on the island of Thunbafushi, where he also operates industrial works and a shipyard. Mohamed Moosa remains a dedicated expert committed to the advancement of the Maldivian tourism industry. He has played a pivotal role in the historical development of tourism in the Maldives, and his extensive investments in the sector continue to provide significant benefits to Maldivian families today.

Mohamed Moosa is the founder of the Maldives' first private broadcasting stations, "Dhi FM," "Dhi FM Plus," and "Dhi TV," which were established to raise public awareness regarding press freedom. Through his family foundation, the "Alifulhu Thuttu Foundation," he has consistently provided annual scholarship opportunities and spearheaded various projects for the benefit of the community. Furthermore, the infrastructure projects undertaken through Mohamed Moosa’s business ventures include the development of Addu International Airport and the establishment of Madivaru Domestic Airport in Lhaviyani Atoll.

Mohamed Moosa played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Maldives Finance and Leasing Company and the Commercial Bank of Maldives, contributing significantly to the growth and development of the nation's economic and financial sectors. Furthermore, the establishment of Tree Top Hospital—a tertiary-level facility founded in collaboration with his business partners—has substantially elevated the standard of healthcare services available to the Maldivian people.

Mohamed Moosa was conferred the Order of Distinguished Rule of Izzudheen (O.D.R.I.) on July 26, 2013. His other notable accolades include the "Tourism Gold Award" presented by the President in 2022 to commemorate the golden jubilee of Maldivian tourism, and the "Face of South Asia Tourism Award" at the 2024 South Asian Travel Awards (SATA).
