As we mark five years since his brutal murder, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom remembered the late Dr. Afrasheem Ali, calling on all responsible to be brought to justice "without further delay".
"Five years after [Dr. Afrasheem] left us at the hands of assassins," noted Maumoon, adding that the nation "demands that all persons responsible for his untimely death be brought to justice without further delay".

Dr. Afrasheem Ali was attacked outside his home, where his body was discovered at around 1:30 am on 2nd October, 2012.
While the motive behind his murder still remains unclear, Hussain Humaam was convicted of the murder, and sentenced to death in 2014.
Dr. Afrasheem's family has said that they do not believe that the investigation into the murder is complete; and had asked authorities to halt the process until it is complete.
