Opposition parliamentarian Rozaina Adam has accused the chair of the parliament's government oversight committee of withholding the details of the individuals awarded housing units under the government's affordable housing scheme.

In a tweet sent out on Wednesday, the MP for Meedhoo constituency and member of the government's oversight committee, Rozaina said that parliament employees have been ordered not to share the information with the members of the committee.

The Housing Ministry's decision to publish only the 'codes' of the flat winners had led to criticism from the public and opposition, who noted that this leaves room to question the procedures followed in choosing the winners. The Ministry maintains that the names were omitted to protect the privacy of the individuals, as well as their rights.

While the committee had asked the Housing Ministry to provide the details of the flat winners before 25th September, Rozaina's comment comes after Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that the information had been shared with the committee. However, Muizzu did not directly say whether they had shared all the information that the committee had requested, instead saying that they had responded fully to the committee.

During the committee meeting, the ruling coalition MPs said that all relevant institutions are investigating the matter, adding that "there is no need for the parliament to get involved". However, the opposition insisted on reviewing the matter, highlighting that "the public has lost confidence in the institutions".
