99 percent of essential business services remain unavailable despite PayPal's introduction in the Maldives: Jailam
Mohamed Jailam, CEO of Javaabu Private Limited, has expressed concern over the limitations of the newly launched PayPal service via Ooredoo m-Faisaa, noting that it lacks essential merchant services and payment gateway features required by businesses. Highlighting high transaction fees and the continued rejection of Maldivian accounts by platforms like TikTok, Jailam argued that the current system remains impractical for many users and urged stakeholders to continue their efforts until full PayPal services are successfully integrated in the Maldives.

Despite the government's announcement that PayPal services will be accessible to Maldivians through Ooredoo m-Faisaa, Mohamed Jailam, CEO of Jawabu Private Limited—one of the country's leading technology service providers—has stated that PayPal's most essential features remain unavailable in the Maldives.
Jailam, a National Award recipient for his contributions to computer software and application development within the information technology sector, expressed his concerns on social media, stating it is regrettable that media outlets are disseminating information regarding PayPal without first verifying the facts.
Providing further details to RaajjeMV on the matter, Jailam stated that it cannot yet be concluded that the government has fulfilled its pledge to bring PayPal to the Maldives.
The Maldivian public is being deprived of accurate information due to propaganda spread by certain media outlets and high-ranking government officials. I have spoken out to ensure that the truth is revealed to the people.Mohamed Jailam, CEO of Javaabu Private Limited
Jailam highlighted that while the integration between m-Faisaa and PayPal allows for receiving US dollars from foreign accounts, each transaction incurs a fee ranging from 3 to 4 percent. He further noted that neither Ooredoo nor the government has disclosed the additional charges involved when transferring these funds to local Maldivian banks, arguing that the cumulative costs make this an impractical solution for everyday use.
Furthermore, PayPal does not currently support domestic peer-to-peer transfers within the Maldives, nor does it provide essential business and merchant services. These unavailable features include invoicing, subscription management, payment links, and payment gateway integration. According to Jailam, these restrictions mean that Maldivians are deprived of 99 percent of the services PayPal offers to businesses.

Jailam noted that major platforms, such as TikTok, still do not accept Maldivian PayPal accounts. He emphasized that these issues must be resolved to ensure the newly introduced service becomes truly functional and beneficial for users in the Maldives.
Jailam stated that following the news of PayPal's availability in the Maldives, he integrated the PayPal gateway into his newly developed platform. However, he expressed profound disappointment after discovering that no financial transactions could actually be processed, describing the statements made by politicians as "half-truths."
While acknowledging the collaborative efforts between the private sector and the government, Jailam stated that the current level of service remains inadequate.
Jailam urged Ooredoo to continue its efforts until PayPal's full merchant services are made available in the Maldives. He also emphasized that the Maldivian people must continue to advocate for this cause until it is achieved.
