Island chief's alleged affair

Island chief, his glamorous office aide and a small town’s massive appetite for scandal

Maha Rehendhi Majidha, the wife of the island chief, publicly confronted the Mayor to demand an end to a scandalous affair and the relentless gossip involving her husband and an aide named Maisha. Despite her efforts to silence the community through legal action and political influence, the public humiliation grew until the island was in total uproar.

A colossal crowd had clustered right in front of the local district office. This was no minor gathering; individuals across every single generation, ranging from young children to the elderly, had turned out in massive numbers. The entire area was absolutely swarming with both youth and senior citizens alike. It genuinely looked as though the total population of the island had packed themselves into that one spot. Driven by sheer curiosity, I walked up to the massive assembly to discover exactly what was going on.

The atmosphere was incredibly tense. Standing directly before the Mayor was Maha Rehendhi Majidha, the spouse of the Katheeb. She was physically shaking, clearly caught in a brutal tug-of-war between pure fury and deep heartbreak. Overcome with raw emotion, she demanded to know if the Mayor remembered how she had begged him when he visited her during his election campaign. She noted that she had requested absolutely nothing else back then, but she had explicitly told him that once he won the election, he had to do a specific favor for her. Now that he had officially taken his oath of office, she had showed up to demand that exact thing, calling it her ultimate and most desperate necessity on that day.

Appearing thoroughly puzzled, the Mayor questioned what had actually occurred and asked what it was that he was being forced to do for her.

Majidha proceeded to air her dirty laundry. Projecting her voice so absolutely everyone in the vicinity could hear her, she instructed the crowd to listen carefully to what she had to say.

She proclaimed that she did not just marry the Katheeb yesterday and had been by his side since long before he ever secured his powerful position. She had stuck with him through the good times and the bad. She explained that she chose him specifically because he possessed the exact traits her mother had once described and admitted to being completely captivated by his grand stature and commanding presence. After spending all these years with him, she argued that she ought to be the person who knows him better than anyone else.

She explained that this is precisely why she watches him like a hawk whenever he steps foot outside of the house. She keeps a sharp eye on his exact whereabouts and the specific characters he links up with for a very distinct reason. Even when he walks back through the front door, she watches him intensely, because she constantly senses that something is completely wrong.

Majidha kept ranting without breaking her stride. She declared that she had never encountered anything quite like this current situation, stating that this entire affair involving a woman named Maisha had gone way too far and had transformed into a giant headache. Her heart sank to the floor on the exact day this woman was handed a job at the island office solely due to her physical attractiveness and allure. Initially, Majidha attempted to block it out.

When the situation began to grow increasingly obvious, she even pulled strings to get the woman transferred somewhere else. But unfortunately, the secret text messages Maisha sends when the rest of the world is fast asleep are absolutely never-ending. Majidha claimed that the woman pulls this stunt dozens of times before the morning call to prayer even rings out. The public is constantly gossiping about how her husband has been taking care of this aide, and Majidha believes every word of it because of the massive sums of money he hands over to her on a monthly basis.

She explained that when the drama escalated to a boiling point, she had the woman booted from his inner circle entirely. Yet, there is simply no end to the nightmare. Likening the woman to an incredibly stubborn pest that refuses to clear out, Majidha lamented that she cannot shake the chaos this aide causes. No matter how much she screams and protests, the woman refuses to back down and stays firmly wedged inside their personal lives.

Majidha revealed that the aide had gone ahead and shared her side of the narrative with the biggest gossips in the locality and those individuals have completely abandoned any sense of decency. They are spreading the juicy update like a wildfire. The entire island is buzzing with the news. Wherever any two people cross paths, this exact drama is the only thing they discuss. Even the women sweeping the dirt off the streets chuckle out loud as they dissect the scandal. Out by the fishing vessels and inside the public social huts, there is absolutely no other topic of conversation. Even the laborers who work with lime or spend their days hauling heavy boats use this specific narrative as a rhythmic work chant to get through their hard labor.

The Katheeb's wife admitted she is completely at her wit's end, having exhausted every single thought in her brain trying to plot an escape from the mess. She even went as far as seeking a restrictive order from the Magistrate to put a screeching halt to the rumor mill. She has thrown individuals into prison for repeating the narrative. She has passed out endless warnings that anyone caught loitering in the streets discussing the drama would face severe consequences. But it was all completely pointless.

The background noise only gets louder. The mocking songs the public sings and the dramatic scenes they act out only continue to multiply. Everyone is laughing directly at them and the entire island is in a state of absolute uproar. The locals have even started parading around a ceremonial chair that looks exactly like the official one sitting inside the island office, leaving her entirely stunned and confused.

She added that she even attempted to utilize the members of the political committee to iron things out, but it yielded zero results. The more those committee members open their mouths to speak, the more the rumors multiply, resembling a deep hole that just keeps giving up more sand the further you dig into it. The public excitement only grows more intense. Capitalizing on the chaotic state of affairs, other local officials have also stood up in open protest. The entire situation has devolved into a chaotic mess and the whole island is currently trembling from the shockwaves.

Majidha confessed that she feels completely cornered with absolutely no escape route left. She can no longer stroll down the streets with the self-assured confidence she used to possess, nor can she show her face at social gatherings or sit down to enjoy traditional music. She completely lacks the courage to even recite poetry alongside her close friends. Despite holding a highly prestigious title, her daily life has become completely unlivable.

Thus she begged the Mayor to do something to fix the problem, throwing herself at his feet and pleading for any kind of solution. She emphasized that she was literally begging on that day to find a path out of the nightmare. She made it a point to track him down immediately following his formal inauguration. While acknowledging that a public district office might not be the most appropriate setting to handle a messy domestic scandal, she explained she showed up anyway because she is dead set on leaving absolutely no stone unturned to rescue herself from the public humiliation.

The Mayor just stood on the spot, entirely paralyzed and speechless.

And then, I suddenly woke up. As I unglued my eyes, I pondered to myself about what bizarre kind of dream I had just experienced. I realized with a wave of relief that none of it was real. As the old proverb goes, dreams are nothing more than illusions.
