A fire broke out at the powerhouse in Bilehfahi island of Shaviyani atoll on Saturday night.
Maldives Police Service has confirmed the fire as well.
According to police, the fire was reported at around 11:55 pm.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, a resident, Abdul Azeez said that the fire had "completely destroyed the powerhouse," adding that no one was injured in the incident.
He highlighted that residents were out on the street, assisting to extinguish the fire.
Azeez added that the fire had led to a massive blackout across the island.
