Two top officials at DJA suspended indefinitely after refusing to resign from their posts
Two senior officials at the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA), Zakariyya Hussain and Ahmed Ali, have been suspended indefinitely after refusing to resign as requested. The suspensions, linked to an ongoing internal investigation, involve two appointees from the tenure of former Chief Judicial Administrator Amjad Mustapha, who also recently resigned. Both officials have previously held high-ranking government positions, and this disciplinary action comes amid broader government efforts to reform and strengthen the administration of the DJA.

Two senior officials at the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) have been suspended indefinitely after refusing to comply with a directive to resign from their posts.
The suspended officials have been identified as Zakariyya Hussain, Head of General Administration and Front Office at the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA), and Ahmed Ali, Director General of the Judicial Academy.
According to reports, the two officials were requested to resign last Tuesday. However, after they declined to step down, they were served with suspension notices later that night. An information officer from the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) confirmed that the two individuals were suspended in connection with an ongoing investigation. Further details regarding the nature of the case have not yet been disclosed.
RaajjeMV has learned that both individuals are close associates of Amjad Mustafa, who resigned from his position as Chief Judicial Administrator of the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) last month. Zakariyya and Ahmed Ali were both appointed to their respective roles during Amjad’s tenure as the head of the department. Amjad stated that his departure from the post was due to personal reasons.
The suspended Zakariyya Hussain previously served as a member of the Civil Service Commission (CSC). He resigned from that post while the Parliament was preparing to dismiss him over allegations of employee discrimination and regulatory violations. Similarly, Ahmed Ali resigned from his position as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education while under suspension by the CSC during an ongoing investigation into a disciplinary matter.
The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) is the primary body responsible for overseeing the administrative affairs of Maldivian courts. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has previously indicated plans to restructure the department, which currently operates under the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), in an effort to enhance its operational efficiency.
