Fuvahmulah launches "AfunCity," the Maldives' first city service application

The digital system introduced by Fuvahmulah City Council marks a significant step toward strengthening the Maldives' decentralization framework and ensuring transparent service delivery. This application features city maps, transport schedules, and prayer times, while also enabling residents to report issues and provide feedback directly to the council. Integrated with national platforms such as "eFaas" and "OneGov," this initiative serves as a model for building smart cities across the Maldives.

The Fuvahmulah City Council has officially launched "Afun City," a mobile application developed to streamline public services and enhance community engagement.

This marks the first time a Maldivian local council has developed such a comprehensive centralized digital system to provide its services. The application is now available for download on both iOS and Android platforms.

According to the City Council, the application is designed to enhance transparency and provide real-time access to council services and city-related information. A standout feature of the application is an interactive map featuring over 3,700 locations. This includes residential properties, businesses, mosques, and public service centers, all integrated with advanced navigation technology to provide precise directions.

To ensure platform security, the system has been integrated with "eFaas," the national digital identity portal. However, provisions have been made for guest users to access certain services without logging in. Additionally, the app features a real-time tracking system to monitor the location and status of vessels traveling between Fuvahmulah and Malé. Prioritizing the religious needs of the public, the platform also includes convenient features such as prayer timings, Friday prayer schedules, and a tool to locate the nearest mosque.

To promote public well-being, the app features real-time air quality monitoring via "IQAir," along with integrated health advisories. Additionally, a dedicated system has been established, allowing residents to report issues regarding public services directly to the Council and track the progress of their complaints. Through the "Afun Ado" module, citizens will have the opportunity to submit suggestions, engage in discussions, and participate in polls and voting on various community matters.

By integrating with the government's "OneGov" portal, the application allows users to apply for various public services seamlessly. The inclusion of council announcements, official decisions, financial statements, and audit reports is expected to significantly enhance institutional transparency and public trust. Furthermore, the app provides access to live camera feeds from various locations across the city, along with information on job opportunities, news updates, and upcoming events.

The inauguration of "AfunCity" stands as a testament to the Fuvahmulah City Council’s commitment to strengthening urban governance through digital innovation. The council highlighted that this project serves as a model for developing "smart cities" tailored to the Maldivian environment, aligning with national objectives for digitalization and sustainable urban management.
