Supreme Court rules that dismissal of former police chief 'valid'

Former police intelligence chief Mohamed "MC" Hameed
Supreme Court has upheld the High Court verdict on former police intelligence chief Mohamed "MC" Hameed, saying that his dismissal 'over suspicion of leaking confidential information' was fair.
Hameed was dismissed back in August 2012, with the Civil Court ordering to reinstate him in September 2013, ruling that he was dismissed unfairly.
The Civil Court ruling was appealed at the High Court by the state, who in, November 2016, overturned the lower court's ruling. According to the High Court verdict, he was dismissed 'on valid grounds'.
The Court, in its ruling, noted that the Civil Court's order to reinstate Hameed based on a precedent set by the Supreme Court, on the ruling on the case of former Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Mohamed Fahmy, adding that the precedent "cannot be applied in Hameed's case".
After Hameed's legal team filed an appeal at the Supreme Court, it rejected the case, saying that there were no issues with his dismissal.

In addition to the dismissal, Hameed was also taken into police custody over the matter. While the police had forwarded the case to the Prosecutor General's Office, charges were not levied against him.
