The 60-year-old was last seen on the beach, at around 7:30 am on Sunday

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)'s Central Area (CA) has begun searching for an elderly citizen, who went missing in Maduvvari island of Meemu atoll.

According to MNDF, it had received a missing person's report at around 9:30 am on Sunday, adding that officers from its post at Meemu Muli were dispatched immediately.

The 60-year-old was last seen on the beach, at around 7:30 am on Sunday. MNDF also said that his 'mundu' (a garment worn around the waist) was found in the water by a family member, at the west side of the island.

Furthermore, MNDF said that the Coast Guard squadron "Dhoshimeyna" is working to find the individual, as well as divers from the Central Area.
