Shakir elected pres. of Dhivehi Bahuge Academy
Shakir is a prominent figure in Maldivian literature. He received the National Award of Recognition for Public Service in 1998, followed by the National Award of Recognition in 2007 for his contributions to Maldivian literature and oratory.

Hassan Shakir Mohamed has been elected as the President of the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy following the resignation of the Academy’s former President, Dr. Ashraf Abdul Raheem, on 31 December 2025.
The election was held during a meeting of the Academy’s members at the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage on Monday, where a secret ballot was conducted to select a new president. Shakir, a well-known poet, received the unanimous support of all five committee members.
Shakir was nominated for the position by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, after which the Academy’s governing body voted unanimously to approve his appointment.
Before assuming the role, Shakir served as Director General at the Information Commissioner’s Office. His professional background also includes service as a member of the Maldives Media Council.

In 2022, he was awarded the National Award of Honor in recognition of his exceptional service to the Dhivehi language and literature.
